The Royal Natal National Park, world renowned for the famous Amphitheatre rockwall, offers some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Africa, a superb network of graded walks with a total length of 130km on well maintained paths, challenging climbs, swimming, horse riding from Rugged Glen camp and trout fishing in the rivers or the two dams in the park.

One of the most breathtaking features of the park is the Tugela Falls with a combined drop of 948m from the Lesotho plateau to the george below. The visitor centre is a worthwhile stop, offering exhibits of the area and a model of the mountains showing the rivers and walks. Birdwatching in the park is very rewarding, with over 200 recorded species, including

the rare Cape Vulture and many antelope are resident in the park. The Natal National Park was proclaimed 1n 1916 and the Royal was added to the name after the visit by members of the Royal Family in 1947.

Tendele Hutted Camp
Located in one of the most picturesque settings in the country, with a view of the world-fanous Amphitheatre from every bungalow. Accommodation consists of 2 and 4-bed self catering chalets, two 6-bed cottages and a 6-bed luxury fully equipped lodge with 3 en-suite bedrooms, kitchen, large living area with fireplace and an outdoor barbecue area. The services of the cook is available to prepare provided meals in the cottages and lodge.
Mahai Campground
Set amidst trees with a large central open playground where children can play in safety, offers 400 camping and caravan sites, some with electric power points and communal ablution facilities with hot and cold water.
Rugged Glen Campground
Located south of the Nhsunduze River, offers 45 campsites, some with electric power points, hot and cold water, and horse riding facilities.

 

 

Day visitor entry fees
R25.00 per adult, R13.00 per child (includes Community Levy and Rescue Levy)
11-20 passengers R65.00, more than 20 passengers or mass above 3000 kg R150.00

 

Gate Opening and Closing Times:
Summer (1 October to 31 March) 05h00 to 19h00
Winter (1 April to 30 September) 06h00 to 18h00


Restrictions
• No pets are allowed in the park.
• Keep to designated paths when hiking, avoid shortcuts
• No sleeping in caves or camping anywhere other than in designated areas
• Firearms must be declared and will be sealed on arrival.
