The Tsitsikamma National Park, 5400 hectares of indigenous forest and a 80km strip of rocky coastline from Natures Valley in the west to the Groot River mouth in the east with its associated marine fauna and flora, was established on 4 December 1964 after a request at the 1962 First World Conference on National Parks to establish marine parks.

The Park offers a 5-day hiking trail, the Otter Trail, with overnight facilities along 45km of the spectacular coastal area, and various nature trails with picnic areas. All access and internal roads are tarred.
The driest months of the year are June and July, and the wettest, May and October with an annual rainfall of 1200mm.
