ACCOMMODATION

The first hotel was built in 1920 in this popular north coast area near the mouth of the Mhlanga River, 20km north of Durban. Umhlanga Rocks became a municipality in 1970 and in 1972 the residential area of La Lucia was incorporated. The Natal Sharks Board has it's headoffice in Umhlanga Rocks, where they erected the first shark net on the Natal coast in 1962.
