| Wolterus Dull and other Dutch immigrants settled in the area in 1883. A church and stone memorial was built in 1887 and the town was established in 1893, named Dullstroom, after Wolterus Dull and the Crocodile River near the town. The Church, most of the town buildings and memorial that were destroyed during the Anglo-Boer War were rebuilt, the Church in 1905 and the settler memorial in 1934. Dullstroom is known as the coldest town in South Africa, the town with the highest railway station (2076m above sea level) and post office, the excellent trout fishing in the area and the only place where Beech and Elm trees grow. |
