The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, renowned for it's huge rhino numbers and fascinating history, is home to ±1600 white rhino, ±450 black rhino, the rest of the Big Five and many other species. The north is rugged and mountainous with forests and grasslands, while the south and west is more undulating with open savannah. This area was once the private hunting area of the great Zulu King, Shaka Zulu.

Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Reserve

The Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, consisting of the Hluhluwe and Umfolozi Game Reserves and the Corridor Reserve, is the only reserve in KwaZulu-Natal where the Big Five occur and covers some 96 000 ha and offers an immense diversity of fauna and flora that occurs in this region. The Park, established in 1895, is the oldest game park in Africa.

Hiltop Camp
Located on the summit of a forested hill, offering fine views of the surrounding countryside, consists of twenty 2-bed rondavels with communal ablutions and kitchens, seven 2-bed and twenty-two 4-bed self-contained chalets, and twenty 2-bedded chalets which are not self contained are within close proximity to the main reception area which includes an a-la-carte restaurant, bar-lounge, gift shop and store.
Mpila Camp
Centrally located in the Umfolozi section, offering twelve thatched one-room 4-bed rest huts with communal ablution and kitchen facilities nearby, two self-contained 3-bedroom 7-bed cottages with a cook in attendance to prepare food supplied by the guests, six 2-bedroom 5-bed chalets with lounge/dining room and bathroom. A shop for cool drinks, curios and film is also available.
Masinda Camp and Lodge
Located near the Mambeni gate, consists of six 4-bed units served by communal ablution facilities and a central kitchen where cooks are in attendance. The secluded Lodge has three 2-bed bedrooms, one with en-suite bathroom and a cook is in attendance, included in the tariff.
Mtwazi Lodge
Located close to Hilltop camp, offering guests total privacy in its own secluded garden. The lodge consists of a lounge, kitchen, three bedrooms with private bathrooms and a 3-bedded en-suite annex. A cook is in attendance to prepare food supplied by guests.
Gqoyeni Bush Lodge
Located on an elevated peninsula, overlooking the confluence of the Black Umfolozi River and the Gqoyeni stream, offers four 2-bed units, each with shower and toilet, that are linked with wooden walkways to a central lounge/dining area. A cook is in attendance and a game guard to accompany guests on game walks.
Muntulu Bush Lodge
Set in a wilderness area, overlooking the Hluhluwe River offers two 2-bed and two 3-bed units, each with private ablution facilities and game viewing decks, are linked with wooden walkways to the lounge/dining area. A cook is in attendance and a game guard to accompany guests on game walks.
Munyawaneni Bush Lodge
Set in parklike surroundings, overlooking the confluence of the Hluhluwe River and the Munyawaneni stream, offers an open plan lounge/dining area adjoining four 2-bed units, each with en-suite shower and toilet. A cook is in attendance and a game guard to accompany guests on game walks.
Nselweni Bush Camp
Located on the Black Umfolozi River, provides rustic but comfortable accommodation, consisting of 4 two-bed units, an open plan lounge/dining room, a fully equipped kitchen and a communal ablution unit. A cook is in attendance and a game guard to accompany guests on game walks.

Attractions and Facilities
• Day walks - short day walks, about 2 hours, are conducted from Hilltop and
  Mpila camps under the supervision of an experienced game guard.
• Picnic sites - several picnic sites with ablution and barbecue facilities are located
  throughout the park.
• Night drives - view nocturnal species by spotlight on open vehicles.
• Hluhluwe Dam boat trips - see an excellent range of birds and animals within the
  park while the Zulu culture is covered in the community areas outside.


Restrictions
• No pets are allowed in the park.
• Firearms must be declared and will be sealed on arrival.
