The Marakele National Park

Location of the Marakele National Park near Thabazimbi

The Marakele National Park, located in the heart of the Waterberg Mountain range near the town of Thabazimbi, is, as its Tswana name suggests, a place of sanctuary for a facinating variety of animal and plant life. The park is characterised by contrasting majestic mountain landscapes, grassy hills and deep valleys. All the large game species from elephant and rhino to the big cats as wel as a large variety antelope and birds, including the largest colony

of the endangered Cape Vulture and a large variety of plants, incuding cycads and tree ferns can be found in the park. The access road from Thabazimbi is tarred but all internal roads are gravelled. There are no shop or cafeteria facilities in the park. The safari camp is not fenced, thus many animals, large and small, can drop in for an unexpected visit during the day or night.
