Shakaland, origanally built for the film sets of Shaka Zulu and John Ross, now a living museum, features luxurious thatched beehive huts with en-suite bathroom and modern conveniences, swimming pool, restaurant, Zulu dancing and visual explanations and lectures on Zulu traditions and customs, including beer and spear making and the mysterious rituals of the Sangoma.

Shakaland, set amongst aloes, mimosa trees, mountains and rivers, overlooks the Umhlatuze Lake in Zululand, 160 km from Durban on the road between Melmoth and Eshowe.

The Zulu Cultural Experience at Shakaland
A fascinating audio-visual on the life of the great King Shaka, visual explanations of typical Zulu traditions, such as beer brewing, spear making, hut building, pottery, weaving, beadwork and the misterious rituals of the Sangoma interpreting messages from the spirits, as well as lectures on traditional dress, Zulu etiquette, the layout and social structure of a Zulu Kraal and observe captivating Zulu ceremonies like courtship, beer drinking and historic dances from all over the Zululand region.
