Tanzania, bordered by eight African countries and the Indian Ocean, is a country of spectacular beauty, consisting of endless palm fringed beaches, forested mountains and plateaus, the highest mountain in Africa, the largest herds of wildlife in Africa in many game and nature reserves and exotic historical islands. Tanzania was used by various traders for centuries, establishing trading posts on the coast, the islands and interior. In 1890 Germany endorsed the German East Africa Company to administer the mainland and the British anministered Zanzibar as a British protectorate. The German era ended after WWI, and Britain took over the administration of German East Africa renaming the country Tanganjika. Tanganjika was granted independence on 9 December 1961 and The United Republic of Tanganjika and Zanzibar which was formed on 25 Aril 1964, was renamed the United Republc of Tanzania on 29 October 1964.
