David Livingstone discovered the falls on the 16th of November 1855 during his travels in Africa. Overwhelmed by the beauty and magnitude of the scene, he wrote "Scenes so lovely must have been gazed upon by angels in their flight" and named the falls "Victoria Falls", after his Queen. as part of Cecil Rhodes' plan for the Cape to Cairo railway line, the area opened as a tourist destination. The first hotel in Victoria Falls was the tin-roofed Victoria Falls Hotel in 1905. Some attractions in the area are game drives, the crocodile park, walking trails, bungi jumping from the bridge, and white water rafting. |
